Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy.”
Psalm 96:11-12
I was recently walking along the outskirts of an industrial estate, as our car mechanic has his shop there. Our car needed its annual MOT test, to check everything was working fine and in good order for being on the road. I had about an hour to wait and thought I would get my legs moving with some exercise.
The surroundings weren’t exciting or pretty, with lots of businesses such as timber suppliers and numerous warehouses for storage. Forklifts, boxes, deliveries in and out and construction were all going on around the industrial estate.
As I kept walking, I was surprisingly struck with delight as I heard two robins in opposite trees, chirping as loudly as possible to each other! Above the clatter of humming machinery and the beeping of vehicles, these little creatures were singing out to each other the most lovely of melodies. It was a delightful reminder to me that God’s beauty is everywhere…. even on an industrial estate on a cold, grey January morning!
We must keep our eyes open as we go about our days. What brings us joy? What brings us closer to the Father’s heart? Thanksgiving and praise (even when we don’t feel particularly cheerful or happy), allows us to foster hearts of gratitude. I know in my own life, choosing to thank God for his many blessings throughout my busy days, seems to sharpen my vision to pick up on the subtle messages and encouragements He is often providing.
Dear God,
Thank you for your stunning creation and how it testifies to your beauty and splendour.
Help us today to ‘see’ You, ‘feel’ You, and have an awareness of your presence in our every day lives.
Forgive us when we completely miss You, as we are too focussed on the challenges and stress of each day.
Help us to remember that even in the darkness of depression, financial worries, health concerns, etc., You, Lord are walking with us. As we lean on You, the Holy Spirit will help strengthen us step by step.
Just like the robins, may we sing your praises always, with grateful hearts and a readiness to embrace Your beauty, love, and richness of life, woven into the fabric of our existence.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen
A beautiful reminder to look for the beauty of the Lords creation and the joy of things in the most unexpected of places.
Thank you Joy

Ahh so relatable!
I began seeing a (Christian) therapist this year and she gently reminds me to focus on the current happenings and the blessings of today.

Yes! That is such good advice to focus on our little everyday blessings. It shifts our focus from grumbling!
